Weekly Update: Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the year (1/21-1/24)

The Cheetah is back! After a week of drama regarding Yuvi's health, Yuvi regains consciousness! Yay! Of course, Yuvi wouldn't be out of action for a long time but I had my doubts. I wonder if Shivin asked for vacation! Back to some serious stuff, Yuvi gains consciousness and the troubles begin...

Suvreen and her friends protest outside the police station. The police inspector is unfazed. He tells everyone that once the students realize that nothing will happen because of their protests, they will leave. But when the protesters don't leave, he orders the other policemen to chase out the protesters. He knew that his action would trigger the students to become violent. Just as he hoped, a policeman is injured and Suvreen, Manu, Rathi, Annie and Naro and many others are arrested.

News of the protest reaches RC. He pulls some strings and arranges bail for Suvreen and rest of the students. He also tells the inspector that he spoke to commissioner regarding the case and the commissioner's office has issued an arrest warrant for the thugs who attacked Yuvi and molested Alisha. Suvreen and her friends are happy to hear that finally something will happen and Yuvi will get his justice. They thank RC and make their way to the hospital to visit Yuvi.

When they get to the hospital, more good news - Yuvi is awake! Everyone argues about who will be the first to visit Yuvi, when Manu and Rathi sneak in. I love their scene! It is so emotional and funny all at the same time. I love their friendship. After them, the girls too make their way in. Annie, Alisha and Naro are happy to see that Yuvi is finally recovering. Alisha thanks Yuvi for standing up for her. Finally Suvreen comes in. The others leave giving YuvReen some privacy.

I really hoped that Yuvi would tell Suvreen that he loved her but instead he told her he didn't want to die. Really? I'm starting to lose my patience. How much longer is it going to take Yuvi to muster up the courage to tell Suvreen that he loves her? What really got to me was that even in the middle of all this, Yuvi was jealous of RC. Really man? Your girl went to jail for you! What more do you want? Yuvi should be thanking RC for getting his girl out of prison!

Suvreen tells her parents and Jasleen that Yuvi is getting better. They are all overjoyed. Jasleen is relieved that she doesn't have to testify anymore. She is happy because she doesn't have to guilty anymore. I get that Jasleen is young and hence she is naive but really? This girl is so crooked! I can't wait for when she has to face the consequences of her actions. When will she learn to be responsible? All she does is blame other people for her actions. She knows she should help but she hides behind excuses.

RC tells Suvreen that the thugs who attacked Yuvi have been caught. Just when things are finally happening, all hell breaks lose. It turns out that one of the thugs is from an affluent family. So he has the connections to make petty allegations like this disappear. One of his hired goons leaves a threatening note in Yuvi's room. They want him to drop the case or bad things will happen to his friends. His goons even send a threatening letter to Alisha's mother telling her that if she testifies then they will burn her face with acid. Even RC is not spared. The goons almost run him over.

When it comes time for Alisha to come to the police station to identify the thugs, she doesn't show up. That's when the thug has a confrontation with Suvreen. He tells her that he will not stay locked up for long. He also tells her that even if the witness wants to testify, she will not be able to. Suvreen wonders what he meant. When she finds out about the threats, she realizes that this is much more serious and dangerous than she thought. From the previews of the upcoming episodes, it seems like Suvreen will try to convince Jasleen to testify. They have an argument and their parents will find out the truth about the whole situation. I wonder what her parents will decide after they find out that Jasleen was the one who caused all of this.

As I mentioned earlier, the makers of Suvreen Guggal should be applauded for taking up such serious issues in their show. The core audience of their show is the youth and I really like that they use their show as a medium to inform the youth of their rights and responsibilities. I can't wait to see how they are going to handle this entire Eve Teasing track. Suvreen Guggal episodes this week reminded me of No One Killed Jessica. After watching movies like No One Killed Jessica and reading about the Jessica Lal murder case, it is disheartening seeing people with power and means getting away with murder. This current track also reminded me of the Keenan and Reuben murder case where Keenan and Reuben were brutally attacked by eve-teasers when they tried to save their female friends. So does that mean that justice is not for the common man? A simple show like Suvreen Guggal raises such an important question.
