Weekly Update: Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the year

So last week ended with RC telling Suvreen that Vivan was sick. So the next morning Suvreen goes to RC's house with some homemade soup for Vivan. Now since Vivan is not sick, RC does not let Suvreen meet him. Instead he tells her that Vivan is contagious and she should leave before she gets sick! Vivan is disappointed that RC asked Suvreen to leave instead of spending time with her. So he comes up with a plan to help RC 'win over' Suvreen. He sends Suvreen flowers with a cheesy romantic note and hires musicians to sing her favorite song in the college cafeteria. The one thing Vivan forgot to do was write RC's name on the note. So Suvreen comes to the conclusion that Yuvraj is her secret admirer. Everyone is shocked and surprised when it turns out that Yuvraj is not her secret admirer.

Watching that entire sequence makes me feel like Suvreen still has feelings for Yuvraj. Even though she told everyone that she moved on with her life, she still has a soft corner for him. I'm starting to feel bad for RC. Poor guy doesn't stand a chance if Suvreen is still in love with Yuvraj. Besides I don't really like Suvreen with RC. He is too mature for her. I like her equation with Vivan but I don't think she can play the role of being a mother figure. She is more like his guide. Considering RC is going to ask Suvreen out for dinner, I wonder what will happen there.

Baby aka Jasleen is quite spunky! She is a complete opposite of Suvreen. She is a typical sneaky teenager who loves talking with her friends rather than pouring over books and sample papers. Her parents think she's taking a study break in Delhi but her actual purpose of coming to Delhi is to meet some dude she met online. Already sounds like a bad idea. She is childish and naive even though she tires hard to act mature. Jasleen lies to her mom and tells her that Suvreen and her went out to watch a movie. When their mom calls Suvreen, Suvreen realizes that Jasleen lied and gets worried about her well-being. When Suvreen finally finds Jasleen, this is what went down.

Suvreen doesn't understand why Jasleen feels like that. This is where some clarity from Yuvraj helps her figure out that Jasleen is tired of being treated like the baby of the family. She wants some space and doesn't seem to be getting it from her parents or Suvreen. She is tired of living up to her ideal older sister and wants to forge her own path. I personally like that Jasleen's character has a bit of grey shades is not a goody-two-shoes like Suvreen. I'm curious to see how Suvreen handles the situation and helps Jasleen understand that although she wants independence she isn't responsible enough to handle it.

Shifting gears, Yuvraj is trying his best to become 'hi-fi' so that he can impress Suvreen. Alisha is impressed by how fast Yuvraj is grasping all that she teaches him. I have a feeling she's falling for him. She always tries to be close to him. When Yuvraj suggests that she join Manu, Rathi and Naro instead of joining his group, she suspects that there is something going on between him and Suvreen. She starts noticing that he always gives Suvreen extra attention. She even asks Naro and Annie if there is anything going on between Suvreen and Yuvraj. They all assure her that Yuvraj and Suvreen are just good friends and nothing can happen between them. So it is going to be a RC-Suvreen-Yuvraj-Alisha parallelogram! Wonder when Yuvraj will finally profess his love to Suvreen...

Suvreen and her friends start filming their social awareness campaign in DPSC. They interview the students of their college to find out their views on eve teasing and women's safety. What they discover is alarming. Their own classmates have very regressive thoughts. For example, one student says that girls who wear short skirts like the bad attention that they get. Another says that girls wear short clothes because they want the negative attention. I like that this show is taking up such an important issue especially after the brutal Delhi Gang Rape case. I like that this show is attempting to change the attitudes of the youth in a creative way rather than being preachy about it.

This promo especially caught my attention. After the case became big news, the creators of Suvreen Guggal released this promo. I love the message and the spirit of Suvreen. Hopefully, this campaign is successful and helps shift the regressive attitudes of not only the students of DPSC but also the viewers as well.

So here is a look at what happened this week in Suvreen Guggal...
