Weekly Update: Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the year (1/7-1/10)

After the whole secret admirer incident, Yuvi makes it his mission to find out who sent Suvreen the flowers and arranged for the musicians. He is curious to know who would plan something like this for Suvreen. I believe there is a hint of jealousy in there too. Also from the way Suvreen reacted, I have a feelings she still has feelings for him. Yuvi enlists the help of Naro to find out the identity of the secret admirer. When the flower company contacts RC, he tells them not to disclose his information. The company calls Yuvi and refuses to disclose any information squashing Yuvi's plan.

Annie, Manu, Rathi and Zorro wonder who could be Suvreen's potential secret admirer if not for Yuvraj. Yuvraj tells them not to talk about it in front of Suvreen as she is hurt by the whole thing. When Suvreen and Alisha join the gang, they start discussing about their social awareness campaign. Suvreen tells her friends about the Delhi Gang Rape case. Her friends are in shock that such a brutal incident can take place on a bus. Manu and Rathi say things which hurt Naro's sentiments and she leaves. Annie and Zorro try to talk to her but she asks them to give her some time alone. Zorro assures Annie that Naro will be alright. Manu and Rathi plan a special medal ceremony to tell them how proud they are to have Naro as a friend. They commend her bravery.

Meanwhile, RC asks Suvreen out for dinner. Suvreen misunderstand the reason behind his invitation. She thinks that RC wants to celebrate their win at the fashion show. She excitedly agrees. RC thinks that Suvreen may have feelings for him and is happy she accepted his invitation. He plans out a romantic evening for the two of them. Vivan is excited that RC is finally going to tell Suvreen how he feels. Suvreen on the other hand is clueless about RC's feelings. She calls Zorro and tells him that RC is inviting the both of them for dinner to celebrate their win at the fashion show. Both of them are excited to be treated by their mentor.

Yuvi gets a call from a model-coordinator and goes out to meet him. The coordinator tells him that Alisha recommended him. He also tells him that he is very impressed and will definitely book him for future fashion shows. Yuvi is glad to hear that and calls Alisha to thank her. Alisha tells him that if he really wants to thank her, he should take her out to dinner. He agrees and the both of them plan to go out the next night. Looks like Alisha is seriously falling for Yuvi! And clueless Yuvi has no inkling as to what's happening!

On the day of the dinner with RC, Suvreen's mom tells her that she will have to stay home with Jasleen. Suvreen's mom and dad have been invited to a pooja and they have to go. Suvreen tells her mom that she has important plans but her mother tells her that she will have to cancel them and stay home with Jasleen since she doesn't want Jasleen to be home alone. Jasleen hears all of this and finds her way out. She made plans to go on a date with Vicki, the guy she met on the internet, but didn't know how she would get out of the house. Once her parents leave, Jasleen tells Suvreen that she should not cancel her plans. She will stay at home and Suvreen doesn't have to babysit her. She also promises Suvreen that their parents will not find out. Suvreen agrees and leaves for the dinner. Right after Suvreen leaves, Jasleen also sneaks out to meet Vickie.

RC is happy to see Suvreen but his happiness disappears when he sees Zorro. He thinks that Suvreen invited Zorro because she didn't feel comfortable meeting him alone. Zorro thanks RC for celebrating their win and taking them out to dinner. When they go inside the restaurant, Zorro is confused as to why the table is set for two rather than three. All through the night he notices that there is something off about RC. Suvreen doesn't seem to notice anything. Instead she is excited to be invited to dinner by her mentor. Zorro questions if RC has feelings for Suvreen. He wonders if Suvreen too has feelings for RC. Zorro proposes a toast to Yuvraj for helping them win the fashion show. He notices Suvreen's reaction and realizes that Suvreen is still in love with Yuvraj. I like how Zorro, the stereotypical gay character, is the most intuitive person on the show. I like how he is always the first one to figure out such things. I wonder if he is the one who figured out that RC is Suvreen's secret admirer.

Alisha and Yuvi go a trendy place for dinner. There they talk and have a good time. Yuvi spots Jasleen in the same restaurant and is shocked to see her out with a guy. He goes up to her and surprises her. Jasleen is shocked to see Yuvraj there and lies to him that she told Suvreen about her plans. Yuvi catches her lie and tells her that she should leave with him. Just as Alisha, Jasleen and Yuvi are walking out to Yuvi's jeep, a bunch of drunks start passing disgusting comments on the girls. Jasleen questions the guys but Alisha tells her to ignore them and keep walking towards the jeep. As the comments start getting more disgusting, Yuvi tells the girls to keep walking. He tells them that the guys are intoxicated and that they should just ignore them. Just when they are about to get into the jeep, the guys surround them. What happens next is shocking.

All I have to say is What is Suvreen going to do get Yuvraj justice? Will Suvreen profess her love to Yuvi seeing him in such a state? Will Yuvi finally profess his love to Suvreen? Will RC realize that Suvreen loves Yuvi? Will Suvreen even find out about RC's feelings for her? I'm eagerly awaiting next week's episodes to see what happens. What will Suvreen do next?

I'm glad that the creators of Suvreen Guggal are highlighting such a critical issue. Seems like every day there is some story on the news about a brutal rape or assault of a woman. It seems like such stories are becoming the norm. When will such incidents stop? I personally feel like things like this can stop only if the people are willing to change their mindset. I like that shows like Suvreen Guggal are trying to change the mindset of the youth and their audience.

Here is a snapshot of what happened this week on Suvreen Guggal...

Weekly Update: Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the year

So last week ended with RC telling Suvreen that Vivan was sick. So the next morning Suvreen goes to RC's house with some homemade soup for Vivan. Now since Vivan is not sick, RC does not let Suvreen meet him. Instead he tells her that Vivan is contagious and she should leave before she gets sick! Vivan is disappointed that RC asked Suvreen to leave instead of spending time with her. So he comes up with a plan to help RC 'win over' Suvreen. He sends Suvreen flowers with a cheesy romantic note and hires musicians to sing her favorite song in the college cafeteria. The one thing Vivan forgot to do was write RC's name on the note. So Suvreen comes to the conclusion that Yuvraj is her secret admirer. Everyone is shocked and surprised when it turns out that Yuvraj is not her secret admirer.

Watching that entire sequence makes me feel like Suvreen still has feelings for Yuvraj. Even though she told everyone that she moved on with her life, she still has a soft corner for him. I'm starting to feel bad for RC. Poor guy doesn't stand a chance if Suvreen is still in love with Yuvraj. Besides I don't really like Suvreen with RC. He is too mature for her. I like her equation with Vivan but I don't think she can play the role of being a mother figure. She is more like his guide. Considering RC is going to ask Suvreen out for dinner, I wonder what will happen there.

Baby aka Jasleen is quite spunky! She is a complete opposite of Suvreen. She is a typical sneaky teenager who loves talking with her friends rather than pouring over books and sample papers. Her parents think she's taking a study break in Delhi but her actual purpose of coming to Delhi is to meet some dude she met online. Already sounds like a bad idea. She is childish and naive even though she tires hard to act mature. Jasleen lies to her mom and tells her that Suvreen and her went out to watch a movie. When their mom calls Suvreen, Suvreen realizes that Jasleen lied and gets worried about her well-being. When Suvreen finally finds Jasleen, this is what went down.

Suvreen doesn't understand why Jasleen feels like that. This is where some clarity from Yuvraj helps her figure out that Jasleen is tired of being treated like the baby of the family. She wants some space and doesn't seem to be getting it from her parents or Suvreen. She is tired of living up to her ideal older sister and wants to forge her own path. I personally like that Jasleen's character has a bit of grey shades is not a goody-two-shoes like Suvreen. I'm curious to see how Suvreen handles the situation and helps Jasleen understand that although she wants independence she isn't responsible enough to handle it.

Shifting gears, Yuvraj is trying his best to become 'hi-fi' so that he can impress Suvreen. Alisha is impressed by how fast Yuvraj is grasping all that she teaches him. I have a feeling she's falling for him. She always tries to be close to him. When Yuvraj suggests that she join Manu, Rathi and Naro instead of joining his group, she suspects that there is something going on between him and Suvreen. She starts noticing that he always gives Suvreen extra attention. She even asks Naro and Annie if there is anything going on between Suvreen and Yuvraj. They all assure her that Yuvraj and Suvreen are just good friends and nothing can happen between them. So it is going to be a RC-Suvreen-Yuvraj-Alisha parallelogram! Wonder when Yuvraj will finally profess his love to Suvreen...

Suvreen and her friends start filming their social awareness campaign in DPSC. They interview the students of their college to find out their views on eve teasing and women's safety. What they discover is alarming. Their own classmates have very regressive thoughts. For example, one student says that girls who wear short skirts like the bad attention that they get. Another says that girls wear short clothes because they want the negative attention. I like that this show is taking up such an important issue especially after the brutal Delhi Gang Rape case. I like that this show is attempting to change the attitudes of the youth in a creative way rather than being preachy about it.

This promo especially caught my attention. After the case became big news, the creators of Suvreen Guggal released this promo. I love the message and the spirit of Suvreen. Hopefully, this campaign is successful and helps shift the regressive attitudes of not only the students of DPSC but also the viewers as well.

So here is a look at what happened this week in Suvreen Guggal...
